Nowadays, it is common to see players capable of playing multiple positions on the field. As everyone knows, only five players are allowed on the court from each team. Each position in the court can be seen as more of a role than an office. As mentioned before, the game of basketball has evolved over the years as you can see players developing a hybrid role and playing more than one position.
point guard:
This person tends to be in the leadership role on the field, fetching the ball every time and running plays. The base must be the best ball-handler, dribbler and passer out of the most players on the team. The base is responsible for dropping the ball into the field when play begins. The base tends to be the youngest and fastest player on the team as well and uses their knowledge of the game to coordinate the offense. They are not necessarily known to get fired because that is not their primary role in court. However, it is common to see point guards take as many shots as other players on the court as well.
Shoot the guard:
This player is also one of the youngest in the team. The shooting guard must acquire skills such as quick dribbling, passing, and having good court vision in addition to being a point guard. The shooting guard also possesses similar skills as the point guard such as bringing the ball down the field and setting up offensive plays. The shooting guard tends to be the player who takes the most shots on the court. The shooting guard also tends to be a three-point and accurate shooting specialist. In terms of height, shooting guards tend to be taller than point guards and are more accurate than point guards.
Small striker:
The interesting thing about young strikers is that they usually have the skills and abilities to play both indoors and outdoors. Skills such as ball handling, passing, court awareness, post-shooting movements and cross shots.
Forward force:
The forward on a basketball team is usually the second tallest player on the team, close to center in attributes and style of play, but faster in speed. The power forward takes on the role of playing under the hoop or playing in the wing or corner areas of the field. Most of the strong forwards in today’s game tend to have a more advanced shot and it’s more common to see a solid lead take a three pointer shot.
center:
On the offensive end of the court, the center is responsible for opening in the paint for an easy bucket with techniques like jump shots, hook shots, and being accurate with the backboard to make a basket. At the defensive end of the court, the quarterback is responsible for anchoring the coating on the defense by blocking shots, passing passes, and grabbing rebounds.
